Hvað verður fegra fundið/What can be more perfect is a bilingual Icelandic-English volume, edited by Margrét Eggertsdóttir, which presents passages from hymns and secular poems by the Revd Hallgrímur Pétursson (1614–1674), Iceland's most celebrated seventeenth-century poet. Best-known and much-loved in Iceland for his iconic Passíusálmar [Passion Hymns], Hallgrímur also wrote a wide variety of other compelling verse. The present volume includes representative examples of his comic and satirical writing, his wisdom poetry and wry depictions of nature, as well as familiar stanzas from the Passíusálmar. The book has an Introduction in Icelandic with an English translation by Andrew Wawn, who also translated much of the poetry featured, other than the Passíusálmar extracts. The poems were selected by Irma Sjöfn Óskarsdóttir, Steinunn Jóhannesdóttir, Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir and Margrét Eggertsdóttir.
